Sunshine on Leith – Sold Out

Thanks to all of our friends, family and visitors who came along and enjoyed our Sold Out performance of Sunshine on Leith. There is nothing more satisfying than playing to a full house and the committee and club members thank all for their support on this magnificent feat. We know from the feedback that everyone enjoyed the show, so we hope to see you all again next year for “Our House”.

Audition results!

Congratulations to our fabulous members for a day of wonderful auditions. It was a difficult job for the Production Team to select the Principals, but after much consideration, we are delighted to announce the Cast List for Theatre Guild Glasgow’s 2017 production of “Our House”

Three bored New England women are left to live without their husbands. Is there no one around who could satisfy all their desires? Cue the appearance of a new man in town – and he fits the bill perfectly. Darryl Van Horne, as portrayed by Jack Nicholson in the movie of the same name, is filthy rich and wild eyed, and within days the three women have all discovered almighty power within themselves. Will good triumph over evil, or will Darryl continue to have his evil way with his ‘witches’? Enjoy a mesmerising evening out with Theatre Guild Glasgow as they leave last year’s sell out run of Fiddler on the Roof and delve into the special effect laden world of the Witches of Eastwick.

Footloose

DESCRIPTION

The Theatre Guild Committee were proud to present our 2012 production, “Footloose – The Dance Musical”. The show was chosen by popular vote of the members back in January 2011 and was a huge hit with our audience, too! Members can look back on a show with vibrant song and dance numbers, a dramatic storyline, dozens of diverse principal roles and one of the best ‘megamix’ finales in the business!

FOOTLOOSE was (very nearly) a SELL OUT with just 19 seats unsold on the Saturday Matinee and every other performance completely full; ensuring that ticket sales topped the 99% mark! A fantastic achievement from a dedicated cast selling a relatively unknown musical. This was the show that saw Connor Going play the lead role in his first Guild musical, where Gill Gilmour played her first leading lady role as Ariel Moore and where the cast were split into “Team Ren” and “Team Shaw” but worked powerfully together in huge ensemble numbers like “Footloose / On Any Sunday”, “I’m Free / Heaven Help Me” and the most awesome “Footloose / Megamix Finale”!

The show was supported by Hollywood icon, writer and lyricist, Dean Pitchford, who wrote to the cast and crew to wish our production well.  Dean said “As each of you plays your part in bringing the town of Bomont to life, I want to thank you for your hard work, your dedication and your spirit, and to wish you an amazing run of the show. I’ve had many, many people the world over tell me that doing “Footloose” resulted in some of the most cherished memories of their lives. I hope that you all have a similar experience.”.

Backstage, the crew brought a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘moving house‘ as they pushed around the purpose built set designed by Jack Murdock. Meanwhile, Tess Byrne brought the stage to life with 200 lighting and sound queues in a show that ran for 120 minutes. Out front, the audience showed their appreciation with the most amazing standing ovations. And beyond the theatre, Theatre Guild were lauded as being “quality assured” and a company “renowned for the quality of their cast” in this review which added, “The cast … carried the audience on a wave of energy all the way to the end”!! On top of all this, members Colin McGowan and Gill Gilmour became engaged to be married onstage after the final performance. The tears were flowing onstage and off as our emotional week came to an end!

FOOTLOOSE explodes onto the stage with classic 80s anthems including Holding Out For A Hero, Almost Paradise, Let’s Hear It For The Boy and, of course, the title track, Footloose. Life in small-town Bomont is peaceful until city boy, Ren, arrives. Breaking every taboo, Ren brings dance back to the heart of a town held back by the memory of a tragedy. Based on the hit 80s movie (which launched the careers of Kevin Bacon, Sarah Jessica Parker and Jon Lithgow), FOOTLOOSE has become a stage musical phenomenon. From Broadway to the West End and touring across the UK, there is just no stopping the music. Originally directed and choreographed by Olivier Award winner Karen Bruce (Fame, The Wedding Singer, Saturday Night Fever), FOOTLOOSE is packed full of electrifying dance routines, guaranteed to get you to your feet. Dancing is not a crime; to miss Footloose would be!. FOOTLOOSE opened at Broadway’s Richard Rodgers Theatre on October 22, 1998 and ran for 709 performances until July 2, 2000 and was nominated for four Tony Awards (Best Book, Best Leading Lady, Best Original Score and Best Choreography). In the UK, Footloose has enjoyed three stints in the West-End and four national tours. FOOTLOOSE brings together an exciting mix of classic 1980s dance music with an intoxicating original score. Songs include 80s chart hits Footloose, Let’s Hear It For The Boy and Holding Out For A Hero plus additional songs from the 1984 movie Somebody’s Eyes, The Girl Gets Around, I’m Free and the love theme Almost Paradise. Add to this some excellent character and chorus numbers from the original score like I Can’t Stand Still, Learning To Be Silent, Heaven Help Me, Still Rockin’ and Mama Says and you have the perfect ‘dancing in the aisles’ musical!
